I know Harry Potter has been out for over 20 years and there are countless reviews, criticisms, etc on it. But in preparation for my upcoming trip to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios Orlando, I have decided to re-read the series again and post about it. I have never been to Harry Potter World and as a Harry Potter fan for over half my life, I cannot put into words how excited I am to be going! So I have decided these posts aren’t going to be book reviews, but appreciation for each book. So here is the appreciation post for Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets!
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets also gives me nostalgic feelings, but they aren’t as strong as the nostalgic feelings I get from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. My biggest memory attached to Chamber of Secrets come from the movie. When my nana was alive and VHS was still popular, I remember putting in this movie constantly nana groaning “Not the one with the cake again!” and I would always play the movie up to the part where Dobby drops the cake on Mrs. Mason, then take it out of the VHS player. Most of the time I would watch the entire movie, but other times I would do it just to annoy her because I thought her reaction was hilarious.
What I appreciate most about the book is that we learn more about the wizarding world. With the Chamber of Secrets being opened again, we learn about Hogwarts was founded, who founded it, and why this chamber was created to begin with. I also like that we learn about new creatures such as Fawkes the Phoenix, Dobby the House-Elf, among others we learn about. And I enjoyed reading about the Mandrakes because I think their life-cycle and purpose is very interesting.
Overall, the imagination and creativity in this book is what I appreciate the most. All the little details and how everything ties together amazed me as a child and still does to this day. Seeing the character growth and getting more character background is something I always appreciate, especially when it’s done with a purpose, and I feel that was well accomplished in this novel.
What good memories do you have associated with Chamber of Secret? How old were you the first time you read it? I would love to know! Have a great start to your week everyone!
