2022 Goals: 6 Month Update

2022 is half over… and I feel like I haven’t lived up to my full potential, or even half of my full potential. Even though I can say I’ve made progress on my four goals, I don’t feel like I’ve made enough progress on them. I know this is me being hard on myself, and that many of you will disagree with me when I say I’m not doing enough. So I’ll just dive right into the goals themselves, and let them do the talking.

  1. Find a job that makes me happy.
If you read my last blog post, then you’ll already know that freelancing isn’t go as well as I hoped. While I still absolutely love writing and will continue to freelance as long as I’m still getting jobs, for right now I need to try to find a regular job that has more consistent pay. Hopefully the regulate job I find will make me happy. So as of this moment, this goal is maybe 25% accomplished.
  2. Have a more minimalist lifestyle.
Out of all my goals, this is the one that I will say I’ve had the most progress with. I’ve definitely let go of more than I’ve brought in. Over the last 3 months, I’ve used up 46 products, sold 2 items that went to better homes, and decluttered 57 items in Florida. I went home for three weeks earlier this month for a multitude of reasons, and one of the biggest tasks I tackled while I was home was going through my old room at my parents place, getting everything packed up, organized, and decluttering items I no longer wanted. The number for this trip home isn’t accurate as trying to keep track of everything decluttered was way too overwhelming, so I’m guesstimating that there are probably about 50-75, maybe even possibly 100 items that weren’t accurately accounted for. So that number aside, the number of stuff actually accounted for was 172 items. If we factor in the unaccounted items, it ranges for 222 items decluttered to about 272 items decluttered. That is a lot of stuff that was just sitting in my old room for three years, collecting dust, being forgotten about, and taking up space.

So overall in the past 3 months, I’ve gotten rid of about 300-350 items between Florida and Pennsylvania. That is insane! And to be honest, I don’t miss any of the things I’ve let go of and I’ve forgotten most of it by now. And over the past 3 months, I’ve only brought in 48 new items. Most of the items brought in were replacement items for a used up product or were the backup for a product I don’t want to run out of. 4 items were gifted to me and 5 were books. I haven’t gone through my storage unit yet, which I’ve been wanting to do for months, but that will be happening soon. I don’t remember most of what is in there anymore because it has all been packed up for over a year, so I’m sure I’ll be able to get rid of a lot more when I do.
  3. Write everyday.
*Laughs and cries at the same time* We don’t talk about this goal, no, no, no! … that’s how well it’s not going.
  4. Put myself first more often.
This one is still a constant struggle for me. I’m still struggling with feeling selfish if I try to put myself first. Especially going home to help my parents. I wanted to put everything I needed to do for my parents first, and myself second. Even now that I’m back in Florida, I’m still struggling with putting myself first. Even on the days when I want to have a “me day”, if someone says they need me, I help them out even if I’m not fully feeling up to it. Like just the other day my roommate decided to go into work on her day off and I had to watch her son. I love him to death, but that day I really just wanted to shut myself up in my room and either nap or meditate for a few hours because I wasn’t feeling well. So I watched him without any thought of myself, my focus solely on him. He wasn’t happy about his mom going into worked unexpectedly, so it ended up being a rough day for both of us. But I did what I could to make him happy because when I’m with him, he is the most important thing. We got through the day, but the moment I could escape to my room to focus on my needs, I did.

So we’re halfway through the year, and things aren’t going as well as I hoped. How is 2022 going for you? Let me know! I hope everyone has a good week!
