“Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.” –Edgar Allan Poe
Happy Birthday Edgar Allan Poe, one of my favorite writers and one of my biggest writing influences! In honor of his birthday, I plan on re-reading The Tell-Tale Heart, The Masque of Red Death, The Raven, and a few other of his tales and poems.
Will you be re-reading any of his works in honor of his birthday? If not, what work of Edgar Allan Poe’s is your favorite? The Tell-Tale Heart has been my favorite Edgar Allan Poe piece since I first read it when I was twelve.
Have a great day of reading and writing everyone!
Uh oh. I didn’t know that today is Poe’s birthday. My favorite work of his is “The Imp of the Perverse.”

Honestly, if it wouldn’t have been for a friend’s mom posting about it on Facebook, I wouldn’t have remembered😂
And that is a good one! I feel like it’s a more obscure choice, but not one that should be overlooked by any means.

Ah, the truth will always out!
The first time I read it, I completely related to it.

No one can ever say I’m not honest lol!
And that’s interesting! I first read The Tell-Tale Heart when I was twelve, couldn’t relate to it one bit, but the brilliance of it has always stuck with me.

I think I first read “The Tell-Tale Heart” in the 9th grade. Loved it!

One of my teachers in middle school was Poe obsessed, so we did a whole unit on him. I was the only kid in the class who didn’t complain about it!

I’ll bet they didn’t complain as vociferously as I complained about being assigned The Hobbit!!

😀 It was a toss-up that year which book I hated more: The Hobbit or The Old Man and the Sea.
