Progress Update: 13 Books I Want to Read in 2021

Back in January, I shared my list of the 13 books I want to read in 2021. So I decided that with the year being half over, it would be a great time to share how far I’ve gotten in my list… and why I haven’t gotten as far as I would like!

Books I’ve Finished Reading

  1. Good Omens
  2. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Review can be found here).
  3. The Alchemyst
  4. The Happiness Project
  5. Zen in the Art of Writing (Review can be found here).

Out of the four books that I’ve read so far the biggest flop for me was Miss Peregrine’s. The other four books I really enjoyed, but if I had to choose the one I liked the most it, it’s a tie between Good Omens and Zen in the Art of Writing.

Books I’m in the Process of Reading

  1. Baptism of Fire
  2. The Complete Handbook of Novel Writing

Admittedly, I’ve struggled with The Witcher series from the start. I love the show and absolutely excited for the second season, but the books are a difficult read… and that’s weird fore me to say because I rarely struggle with books! However, I do think I can finish this book by the end of the week because I only have 217 pages left to read.
The Complete Handbook of Novel Writing has been a slow read for me simply because I want to absorb as much knowledge as I can in the first read and then use any future reads a refresher.

Books I Haven’t Read Yet

  1. The Tower of Swallows
  2. The Lady of the Lake
  3. The Path of Druidry
  4. Paganism
  5. It Starts with the Egg
  6. Mastery

With these 6 books that have yet to be read, that’s for a variety of reasons. The first two books on this list are books 4 and 5 in The Witcher series, so obviously I can’t read them until I finish Baptism of Fire! It Starts with the Egg is most likely going to be the lats book I read this year, if I read it at all because where my personal life is right now versus where it was at the start of the year are on completely opposite ends… and I’m not sure I want to read a book for something that may or not even be possible for me. The other 3 books I just haven’t been in the right mindset for.

And admittedly, I’ve been reading other books besides just the ones on this list. I’ve been on a self-help book kick since about February, so I’ve been putting this list on the back burner. But now I’ve gone back to actively working on this list while also remaining on my self-help book kick.

How many books have you read so far this year? Are you making progress on any of your goals/to-do lists for the year? And can you believe 2021 is already halfway over? I honestly feel this year has gone by super fast and at this point, I’m ready for a fresh start in 2022. I hope everyone has a great week and happy reading!
