So it’s taken me a few days to write and post this because honestly, I’m still shocked. Turns out, third time really is the charm and three really is my lucky number. Why is that? Because it took me three tries to pass my learner’s permit!
That’s right- I now have my learner’s permit! This means I’m one step closer to driving! This is one goal that I’ve set for myself year after year since I was in my early 20s, but it was one I never really took any steps towards because… well honestly, I didn’t see the point to getting my driver’s license. I always had someone available to drive me somewhere if need be or I could take the bus, a Lyft, or Uber, or I could just walk! So a driver’s license never seemed important… and then my life took turns I never expected and I had to sit back and think about what I really needed to do for myself and my future. A driver’s license is one of those things.
So now I’m onto the next step- Learning to drive. The people I live with are taking it slow and smart with me, taking into consideration that I have major driving related anxiety that I need to overcome. The first lesson this morning was to distinguish the brake pedal from the gas pedal (it honestly took me a minute to get that correct because I naturally go right to left for everything, so I kept hitting the gas pedal. Thankfully the car was only parked and not on)!
I know this isn’t writing related, but if you read my Trying to Get My Life Back On Track blog post, you’ll know this was one of my goals that I wanted to achieve… and now it’s achieved! Honestly, I’ve been making a lot of strides toward getting my life back on track this month and it feels really good. I’m starting to feel like myself again after months of not being in the best headspace. So yeah… I’m excited to see how this all plays out.
How is everyone doing? I feel like I’ve been gone for way too long! I hope everyone is doing well and has a safe Memorial Day weekend!
It’s good to hear from you, Michelle! Congratulations on getting your learner’s permit and taking positive steps to getting your life back on track.
