Disclaimer: I know we are still in the middle of a global pandemic, so going anywhere is still risky. With this short day trip we took, my fiancée, myself, and his brother all made sure to wear our masks even while outside and even with no one else around us. If someone was near us, we made sure to practice social distancing. After our transactions, we made sure to wash hands and even after I washed mine, I sanitized them in the car as well because of having touched a door handle. So we were as safe as we could possibly be. However, I did get a bad case of heatstroke from this short trip, so that sucked. But besides that, we are all healthy! So with that being said, let’s get to the good stuff!

My fiancee Shane is very into Japanese culture. Together, we’ve started getting more and more into owning plants. When I first moved here I had one small plant I brought with me from Pennsylvania, but it didn’t survive long after. Since then, our plant hoard has grown with a few casualties along the way (my Venus flytrap, Venus and my lavender plant, Lavender, being the most painful losses). We have a Lucky Bamboo plant (named Lucky), but Shane has always wanted a bonsai tree. There’s something about them he really likes. So we started searching for one and had no luck. Finally, he Googled Bonsai Trees and found a nursery that sold them. And that’s how our adventure began!

The Bonsai nursery we visited is called Wigert’s Bonsai Nursery and it’s located in North Fort Myers. When we first drove up to it, we couldn’t see much through the tress. But once we cleared the trees, we saw a giant parking lot and Bonsai trees on both the right and left sides. We were greeted by one of the owners and she explained how the nursery was set up. So we made our way through the rows and rows of Bonsais. Here are pictures of some of the ones I found the most interesting/visually appealing to look at.

Honestly, I would have loved one of the flowered ones, but Shane wanted one that was more traditional and he ended up finding one he really liked!

Besides Bonsai trees, they have a Koi fish pond and you can actually purchase Koi fish! We’ve talked about having a Koi fish pond at one point in the future, so it’s good to know we’ll have a place where we can get them. I didn’t take any pictures of the ones for sale, but I got some photos of the Koi pond and the fish inside!

They also sell small cacti outside. I didn’t get any photos of them, but I did purchase two that looked really interesting (and cacti are super easy to take care of). The inside of the store is field with pots, soil, and other tools needed for caring for your Bonsai. While Shane was checking out, I went into the bathroom to wash my hands and I had to take a picture of the wall because it was the prettiest bathroom wall I have ever seen!

So besides the fact that I got heatstroke from this day trip, it was a lot of fun! Being surrounded by all the Bonsai trees felt very peaceful and it was nice to be surrounded by nature for a change. Overall, I would definitely here again!
