On January 1st, I posted my 2020 goals. Now today, May 1st I am posting my goals update for the month of April. I think we can all agree that April was a very rough month. With the state of our world and then personal tragedies, worries, stresses, etc we all faced, April was not a kind month to us. And it hit me very hard. I spent most of the month stressed with constant worry, anxiety, depression, and a lot of trouble sleeping. So the fact that I accomplished anything this month surprises me. So here is my goal update for the month of April.
1. Write 500 words a day: I can’t even count all the days I missed writing this month. I did well with meeting my goal the first week and a half of the month, then I just sort of gave up. I felt I didn’t have anything to write about or what I did felt inappropriate because it seemed weirdly cheerful… and I just didn’t want to continue on with it. So I didn’t reach my 15,000 word goal, I only wrote 9,240 words in April. Seeing that number makes me cringe, but it is what it is right now. All I can do is try harder to meet the May goal of 15,500 words.
2. Learn or try something new every month: I did two different things this month. The first one you can read about here. It was basically a way for me to declutter my life better. Since that post I have decluttered 3 more health and beauty products. I am definitely going to continue doing Project Empty in the months to come. And my second new thing I tried you can read about here. It was more creative and also something I am going to continue doing!
3. One post a week: Thanks to all my planning and having blog posts prepared for the next few months, I was able to meet this goal with no issues! Thank goodness for planning and organizing!
4. Finally finish a draft of a novel: I received feedback from two of my four beta readers (someone offered to beta read my novel about halfway through the month). The feedback I received was thoughtful, insightful, and very helpful! So far it has gone well and I look forward to seeing what my other two beta readers have to say as well. The novel is still in pieces though, so my plan for the month of May is to basically deconstruct what I have and figure out the best way to put it back together. Upon a brief read through of the novel, I realized I have the same scene twice… WHY DO I HAVE THE SAME SCENE TWICE?! So a complete deconstruct and rebuild of the novel is needed.
So that was my April. Definitely the weakest month for my word count, but I managed to do be successful with my other goals. I definitely think May will be the month of the novel!
So how was your April? Did you meet all your goals? Some of your goals? None of your goals? I just hope it went better than mine! I also hope all of you and your loved ones are safe and healthy! I hope everyone has a safe and healthy weekend!
You really included the same scene twice?!

Yep! Just shows how disorganized my novel currently is. … At least it was very similar both times, so I’m confident that’s how I want the scene to go!
