This isn’t something I thought I would be posting anytime soon. This is something I thought would be put on the back burner for an unforeseeable amount of time. This is something I have wanted for so long, but after a very upsetting rejection last year, I didn’t think it would possible, especially not so soon. Honestly, this whole process and outcome came to be in about 25 hours and was done kind of on a whim… So to be sharing this news with all of you about a month and half into 2020 is incredible and unbelievable! So the news is-
I GOT ACCEPTED INTO AN MFA CREATIVE WRITING PROGRAM!
That’s right- I’m now officially a grad student on my way to an MFA and the career I want! And it feels incredible to write that. It feels right and good and… I’m so happy. Really, really happy and beyond excited. I feel like I’m back on the path I’m meant to be on. I feel like I’m getting back to myself and what matters most to me. And that rejection no longer hurts me. In fact, I feel like the University of Tampa rejecting me was the best thing for me because now I feel like I’m going to be in a program where I’m free to be myself and where my style of writing will be appreciated and embraced.
I won’t reveal the name of the University yet, but what I will say is that it is a well-known one that many of you have probably seen ads for on Facebook or YouTube. So maybe that will give you a good guess as to where I got accepted or it won’t. Also, I won’t actually be commuting to the campus, all my courses will be online to make it easier for me to manage work and school.
So in one year I will have my MFA in Creative Writing and hopefully with that MFA I will be able to quit my current job- which isn’t in my field of interest or someplace I want to work for the rest of my life- and be able to have a career in the field I love and am passionate about. I know some days will be tougher than others and that I will have plenty of obstacles ahead of me during this journey, but I’m ready for all of it. I said I was going to make 2020 my year and I meant it. I’m off to a great start already and it will only get better from here!
I look forward to keeping all of you up to date on this journey as each new chapter starts. Thank you to everyone that has read one of my blog posts and followed this blog, your support means a lot to me. Most importantly, thank you to my parents, my best friends Cat and Kellie, my amazing mentor Chuck and his wonderful wife Liz, my boyfriend Shane, and all my other friends and family members who have supported and inspired me over the years. The support all of you have given me is more than I could have ever hoped for and I don’t think I have enough words in my vocabulary to express my appreciation to all of you. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
And I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
Michelle, I am so very proud of you!

Chuck, thank you so much! I don’t think I would have made it as far in my education as I have without your constant guidance and inspiration over the years 🙂
