So a lot of you are reading this title and probably asking- What does Twenty One Pilots have to do with writing? My answer is EVERYTHING!
So last night in Atlantic City, New Jersey, I saw Twenty One Pilots in concert for the first time with one of my best friends, Kellie. And honestly, it was the best concert I have ever attended and probably will always be the best concert I’ve ever attended. It was two hours of pure brilliance, emotion, and joy. And I have a brand new appreciation for their music and the guys in general.
So what does this have to do with writing? Well if you’ve ever listened to Twenty One Pilots, you know their music can be darker with hopeful undertones. Songs like “House of Gold” have a very upbeat sound, but the lyrics are darker. My favorite song “Holding On To You” is beautifully written and the lyrics have such emotion to them that it’s almost haunting- in my opinion of course.
But the real point is that every Twenty One Pilots song is written so well that they together they flow together no matter what order or album they’re played off of. Hands down, Tyler Joseph is one of my favorite songwriters and I would love to just be able to talk to him about writing. Even lyrics like “My taste in music is your face” that make you go wtf leave a lasting impact on the listener. If you haven’t listened to Twenty One Pilots, I encourage you to take the time to do so because their lyrics are well written and amazing. Here are a few of my recommended TOP songs:
Fairly Local
Holding On To You
Legend
Migraine
My Blood
Stressed Out
I feel so inspired to write after seeing them live… and that’s an amazing feeling to have!

I don’t listen to music while I write. Rather, music prompts the urge to write by evoking particular feelings. It pretty much sneaks up on me when I least expect it.

That’s really interesting. I listen to music while I write because it helps give me that extra boost I need, especially when I’m doing my freelance writing.

I always find other people’s writing process endlessly fascinating! One size definitely does not fit all.

Yes! I never really quite clicked with songs like the hype until I saw them live … and now they have this whole new deeper meaning for me. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done too … now I can’t wait until the next time 🙂 there’s something about being in a room of people who have found and are bonded by the same amazing people and ideas … its the most beautiful energy.

For me, it was We Don’t Believe What’s On TV… I never really clicked with that song. But after hearing it live and seeing how Tyler got the crowd involved, I click with the song now 🙂 I can’t wait for my next Twenty One Pilots concert experience as well 🙂
