I’ve decided to start a new series on this blog called Things that Have Been Inspiring Me (Insert Month Here). I want to do this because I’ve noticed that different things have been inspiring me or motivating with my writing and other areas of my life. So I thought it might be nice to share those inspirations with all of you and in return, maybe you guys can share your inspirations with me in return! This month I’ve had 3 main inspirations, but I know it will vary from month to month. So here are my three inspirations for the month of February!
The Color Blue
Blue has been one of my favorite colors since I was younger. For me, it’s a color that brings me a lot of joy and allows me to feel a range of other positive emotions. Lately I’ve felt very inspired by it, gravitating toward more items that are blue and less toward black, which is my preferred color for everything. When I stare at a blue image, I feel my creative mind begin to wander and work, motivating me to write something or get done other tasks I’ve been putting off. In the weeks and months to come, I plan on incorporating more blue into my life in order to keep the creative energy flowing.
Walk the Moon
Most people probably know Walk the Moon from their hit song “Shut Up and Dance” which we never could seem to escape in 2014. Though I do love that song and will chair dance when I play it, I’ve been very inspired by their newer music. The songs One Foot, All I Want, and Timebomb have been played repeatedly since January and don’t seem like they will be going away for me anytime soon. I find their lyrics very inspiring and have made me question who I am and what I want, but in a way that doesn’t bring on anxiety or panic. With their music I am beginning to find inner peace within myself, a belief that they pursue in their individual lives. Plus their front man Nicholas is really into yoga and I’ve seen a photo of him doing tarot, so I feel like I can relate to him on a spiritual level- at least a little bit. Overall I’ve really been enjoying their music and hope I will continue to do so in the months to come
Marie Kondo (Her Book & Netflix Show)
Last month I finally finished reading Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Soon after i finished it her Netflix series came out and I got through it very quickly because I got hooked on it! Watching her help people transform their spaces and lives was very inspiring to me. I do consider myself to be a pretty tidy person who doesn’t hoard things, but after watching that show I realized how much was cluttering my life both physically and mentally. Though I don’t agree with all her methods, I think the overall concept of what she teaches is amazing. Finishing the book and watching the show has inspired me to start to declutter my life as well. I make it a habit to declutter, but this time I feel like I can do a much better job at it. I plan on decluttering the physical, digital, and mental aspects of my life in hopes that at the end of the process I will feel lighter, clearer, and overall in a better place to get my life and career to where I want them to be. If you would like to see my decluttering journey through blog posts, please let me know because I would love to share it with all of you!
So those are my three inspirations for February! I think it will be interesting to see how what inspires me changes from month to month. Then at the end of the year it will be fun to look back and reflect on what inspired me throughout the year.
I hop everyone has a great day! Stay tuned for my next blog post which will be progress report #2 on my Writing Resolutions for 2019!
